Carpet Cleaning 101

In the 15 years in service, Quest Floor Care owner and operator Joseph Rodgers has dedicated the time and effort to become a certified Master Textile Cleaner. Along the way, he learned that there are three basic steps to ANY cleaning process. It doesn’t matter if it’s your kitchen counter, carpet, or a historic brick floor that has been around for hundreds of years.

Those cleaning steps are as follows:

  1. Spray: spray cleaning solution onto the surface
  2. Scrub: break up the dirt on the surface and suspend it in the cleaning solution
  3. Extract: remove soiling & residue from the cleaner, from the area that you’re cleaning

First, Quest Floor Care starts by applying the cleaning solution onto the carpet. Next, we use a state-of-the-art machine specifically designed for scrubbing carpet to break up any and all soiling that may be present. Finally, it’s time to extract (or rinse) all of that dirt out of the carpet.

Hot Water Extraction (aka "Steam Cleaning")

A lot of people call what Quest Floor Care does “steam cleaning." We get it!  The water we use is extremely hot. When it comes out of the wand, sometimes a little steam will come off the sides. However, cleaning industry professionals call it hot water extraction or “HWE."  There are things that pressurized steam is good for cleaning, but carpet is not one of them.

When Quest Floor Care's founder was a kid, his Mom taught him to clean/rinse dishes with hot water, because it “cleans better." Turns out, the science is right: for every 18°F that the water temperature increases, the chemical action will double, thereby increasing the “cleaning power." Who knew? Well, aside from Moms everywhere.

The Quest Floor Care Carpet Cleaning Process

Since no two jobs are the same, Quest Floor Care uses several different approaches to make your carpets look like new. Let’s take a look at the process:

Consultation

During your free Quest Floor Care consultation, we take time to inspect all areas of concern and explain our cleaning procedures. We customize a cleaning package for your carpets and desired results, and provide an estimate upfront. There are no hidden charges.

Spot and Stain Treatments

Did you know there is a difference between a spot and a stain? When there is a substance on the carpet fiber, it’s a spot. If that substance has discolored the carpet fiber, it’s a stain. Quest Floor Care provides expert spot and stain removal. We also notify customers before cleaning if we see a stain that we may not be able to remove. Stains such as ink, wine, dyes, and urine may incur separate charges based on severity.

Soil Suspension and Carpet Scrub

We pre-condition your carpet with a pre-spray that brings trapped dirt to the surface. Next, we use a rotary machine to break the dirt loose. The scrubbing procedure goes a long way towards making your carpet cleaner.  To learn more about the process, read this blog article.

Rinsing

Quest Floor Care follows carpet manufacturers’ guidelines and uses the hot water extraction method. We use a wand to remove water and dirt thoroughly, ensuring a great cleaning. It’s like taking a shower.

Drying

We use fans to quickly dry your carpet. For extreme cases, we provide high flow air-movers to accelerate the drying process. Leaving a fan incurs a small additional fee.

Walk-Through

Quest Floor Care invites our clients to walk through their space with us after we complete a project to make sure everything looks perfect before we pack up.

Joseph with Quest Floor Care was very professional and effective in treating and cleaning our upstairs carpets in our home before placing it on the market. He listened to what we needed and did not try to upsell us on other areas or services. Joseph sanitized and cleaned our carpets, and likely played a role in us receiving multiple offers shortly after our house hit the market. He will be who we contact when we need any similar services in our new home."
